COLOUR MASTERCLASS WITH KAFFE FASSETT
We are absolutely delighted to announce that
will return to Apple Tree Crafts in August 2022
(thankfully we didn’t put them off last time they were here!)
The incredible Kaffe returns to Newtownmountkennedy
He made using bold colours and mad patterns into a huge worldwide movement in the design and craft world and now he will show you how he does it.
There is so much to learn from the only modern designer to be permanently featured in the world famous Victoria & Albert Museum.
The San Francisco-born, England-resident textile artists show took place at the V&A Museum in 1988, when he acquired the distinction of being the first living textile artist to have a dedicated exhibition at that august institute. It broke attendance records for the museum, and subsequently toured several countries, and now, we are bringing him to you.
We are so excited that we have another opportunity to welcome both of them to Ireland again.
Read on for more info on the events, what you need to bring and how to book.

The series of events includes 3 days of workshops on

Workshops
Kaffe & Brandon will use most of the class time to teach about the arrangement of fabrics, to develop each participant’s own personal colour palette to help you make your own original designs.
No sewing takes please during the class so no sewing machines needed.
Each workshop is one full day, with running time from 9:30 – 12:30 with an hour for lunch, then 13:30 – 16:30. Please arrive 30 minutes early to allow for set up and a prompt start.
Together, Brandon and Kaffe will teach up to 20 students.
Each participant will have ample cutting space but more importantly, enough wall space to hang and work on their own design wall.
Kaffe and Brandon will focus on a different quilt pattern during each workshop so see details below to see which one is your preferred.
You will need the book that features the quilt and this can be ordered at time of booking.
If you wish to do more than 1 workshop we recommend including Green Diamonds and either of the others as your second. Green Diamonds has no background colour and as such the approach to working out a colour arrangement is quite different to Meditteranean Hexagons and Mystery Snowballs.
Workshop 1 – Green Diamonds
Wed August 3rd, 9.30 – 4.30
This workshop will focus on this stunning quilt from Kaffe’s book Quilt in Ireland. It’s going to be really exciting to see how Kaffe advises getting those diamonds flowing into each-other. We can’t wait to see this in all the different colourways that will appear during the workshop!
Workshop 2 – Mystery Snowballs
Thursday August 4th, 9.30am – 4.30pm
This workshop will focus on this stunning quilt from Kaffe’s book Quilt in Morocco. This is an opportunity to use some bigger, bolder prints you may not have been brave enough to try before. You can use your corner pieces to compliment OR contrast your gorgeous fabric choices.
Workshop 3 – Mediterranean Hexagons
Saturday August 6th, 9.30am – 4.30pm
This workshop will focus on a really fun pattern, ideal for using those big blowsy prints from Kaffe’s book Quilts in Morocco. This is a great opportunity to show off large prints and will be a boundary pusher for many of us!
How much does it cost and how do I book?
Tickets to all events can be booked by following the links below OR through the shop in person OR by phone by calling (00353) +12810060. Shop hours are Tues to Fri 10-4 and Sat 10-1.
Book DIAMONDS WORKSHOP here
Book SNOWBALLS WORKSHOP here
Book HEXAGONS WORKSHOP here
Workshops are €225 each, you will need a design wall and a book.
We can provide these for €30 and €20 respectively.
Payment in full must be made at time of booking to secure a place for both lecture and workshops.
Unfortunately we cannot hold a place on either event without it. Tickets to all events are non-refundable and non-transferable.
For the workshop you will need lots of fabulous fabrics so bring whatever you have but don’t precut anything, wait until you get started.
Kaffe and Brandon like to help you pick out fabrics and may advise/encourage you to purchase more on the day to get your fabric selection just right.
We don’t like to be surprised with unexpected expenses and we wouldn’t do that to you either, so please be aware that you may need to buy extra fabric during the workshops.
We will have our shop set up so there will be plenty of Kaffe and other fabrics to choose from although we know many of you have significant Kaffe stashes already!!
Here’s some info from Kaffe’s team…
“Some participants prefer that they know beforehand exactly what fabrics to bring, but the principle of this class is to inspire creativity and work instinctively. We don’t have a theory or work from a planned recipe. We all like different fabrics and colours for different reasons and so we should! The best suggestion we could give participants is to bring a wide selection of large scale prints in either bright/light colours or dark/richer colours. It’s much easier to have more fabrics to play with in the class and be able to eliminate. Kaffe and Brandon will help participants shop in the class, so leave some choices to them. Please DO NOT cut fabrics before the class.”
Well, that’s just too exciting, there are not enough exclamation marks for this.
We can’t wait for August, WOOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
See you all in Newtown,
Sinead, Trina & Marie
